Physical activity

It is important to continue to be physically active. This can be difficult when you have pain but there are ways to introduce very gentle exercise for strengthening and flexibility. It is important to start from where you are TODAY, not the last time you did some exercise or physical activity - that may have been a while ago when you were a bit fitter, so take it easy to begin with and build it up gradually. For example, for arm strengthening exercise, do some exercises without any weights at all, then slowly introduce some light weights over a few days.

You should talk to your health care provider before doing any new or different exercise/activity.

Pauline from Anglesey had a car accident which left her with severe back pain, she says - "by working with my physiotherapist and using some of the examples from the EPP course book - I am more physically active which helps me manage my pain much better on a day to day basis".
