Welsh Backs

Communication

Using 'I' messages can be an effective way of telling those around you how you feel or for when you want (or don't want) help with things. By starting a sentence with 'I' helps to soften what you are saying and is less confrontational than a sentence starting with 'you'. For example: instead of saying "you never listen to me and you don't know how I feel", you could use "I feel that I'm not being heard and my feelings aren't understood".

Time with patients is needed to address these concerns and to re-inforce the advice to stay active. I welcome the 'Welsh Backs' campaign which is making this advice more available to the public and reassuring back pain sufferers that staying active is definitely the right thing to do!
